Active Release Technique (Old)

Home Active Release Technique (Old)

Posture Is Important To Your Overall Health

The good news is that postural changes can be corrected.  The bad news is that postural changes are ignored and can be prevented.

Why is posture so important anyway?

The spine is designed to house and protect the spinal cord.  Nerve bundles run from the spine to all the organs and tissues of the body.  The spine is kinda like the fuse box of a house.  When the occupant of the house turns on the microwave the power connections run from the microwave to the fuse box coordinating the power.

What happens if a fuse is blown?

Easy, you will not be able to microwave your leftovers from last night.

The same goes for bad posture.  When our spine is not functioning correctly the other systems of the body are affected too.  These affects are called symptoms.

Poor Posture Affects: Circulation, Breathing, Digestion

Active Release Technique Helps Restore Posture

The purpose of Active Release Technique (ART) is to identify muscles that are imbalanced due to poor posture and, along with the Chiropractic Adjustment, restore normal function of the spine, aka fuse box.

ART is a manual therapy similar to massage that focuses on restoring muscles, tendons, ligaments to their normal length.

Two examples of postural issues that are helped greatly by ART and the Adjustment are called Upper and Lower Cross Syndrome.

Upper Cross syndrome is where the muscles in the chest and the back of the neck are tight while the muscles of the front of our neck and mid back are weak.

Symptoms of Upper Cross Syndrome may include: tension at the base of the skull, forward head posture, and rounded shoulders.  Decrease blood flow to the brain and oxygen taken in by the lungs result from upper cross syndrome.

Lower Cross Syndrome is where the muscles of the front of the hip and mid to lower back become tight while the abdominal and glutes muscles become weak.

Symptoms of Lower Cross Syndrome may include: tension stiffness, spasm of the lower back , hips, and side of the legs.  This can lead to joint pain, reduced flexibility and an increase likelihood of low back injuries.
